Not By Chance Visualizers

Not By Chance is an EP released by artists AP Dhillon, Gurinder Gill and Money Musik in December 2020. All seven of the songs from the EP were charted on the NZ charts and occupied the top five of the Official Punjabi Music chart in the UK. I created a series of 4 visualizers intended to enhance the audio-visual experience of those listening to the tracks on Youtube. Collectively the visualizers were streamed 29.1 million times since their release.

Fate

Fate is a very romantic song however, I wanted to avoid the protrayal of a romantic cliche for this track and instead focused on creating a visual that would put the viewer in a trance. I focused on the concept of a higher power here, as the lyrics are speaking about a God. In religious communities, space is generally viewed as a creation by something greater than life on Earth. I translated these ideas into a surrealist and otherworldy animation.

Takeover

Honing in on a more fast-paced, chaotic energy- I used a series of explosions to mirror the beat and bass of the audio. The songs on the EP are diverse, allowing me to experiment with ideas independent from one other. However, by staying consistent with the saturation percentage and vibrancy, the series is bounded by this element of visual unity.

Chances

Experimenting with lights and materials in Blender, I relied on colour psychology to accurately represent the solemn disposition of this song. I chose to animate a glass rose, guarded by a serpent- as this visual encompassed the romantic nature of the track, and the element of a brittle material portrayed the fragility of love as the artist sings of regret, heartbreak and betrayal. In After Effects, I added rain and lightning- using the environment as a meaningful addition to the existing visuals.

Drip

The visuals for this song portrays it's lyrics in a literal way. The term drip in the context of this song describes the artists' attire as being "cool and expensive". However, the lyrics are also cleverly formated where the term is also associated with a "drop of posion". I animated the physical element of a drip- using it to emphasize the concept of poison by showcasing a glowing green skull in a medicine bottle.

This project forced me to express my creativity in a fast-paced, highly competitive environment and fast-tracked my growth as a designer and professional in the creative industry.

Interesting addition to this project:

During this time, I also wrote the Spotify descriptions for artists AP Dhillon and Gurinder Gill, which you can read below.
